Brazil achieved their second victory in the Olympic Games by beating Belarus 3-1. The Seleção, who had to come from behind after conceding in the eighth minute, demonstrated their superiority over a team that was at the Brazilians’ mercy throughout the encounter. Goals from Pato, Neymar and Óscar established Brazil as sole leaders of Group C with 6 points. Marcelo, the Real Madrid player, played the entire game for his national side.
Brazil continue confidently at the Olympic Games in London with victories in both their games. The team coached by Mano Menezes defeated Belarus in a match in which they needed to come from behind after Bressan’s goal in the eighth minute. The joy was short-lived, however, for Kondratyev’s team, given that only it only took the Seleção 7 minutes to equalise when Pato latched on to a cross into the area from Neymar to score with a header. After the goal, Brazil took control of the encounter, enjoying many opportunities that they were unable to convert into a scoreboard advantage before the end of the first half.
After the break, Brazil piled the pressure on Gutor’s goal in an attempt to place the match out of the Belarusians’ grasp, and enjoyed several opportunities thanks to Marcelo and Neymar’s play down the wings. The Real Madrid player sent a warning shot in the fiftieth minute with a fierce strike from distance that caused the Belarus goalkeeper all sorts of trouble. The Brazilians’ superiority paid off in the sixty-fifth minute, with Neymar scoring to make it 2-1 with a majestic strike from a free kick. Despite leading the Brazilians were not content to settle with the result as it stood, and continued to lay siege to Gutor’s goal until the final whistle. Óscar sealed the victory in the ninety-third minute with a finish in the six-yard box from a back heel supplied by Neymar. Brazil now top Group C on their own thanks to victories in both the matches they have played.
