Fabio Coentrão played his first few minutes of the season after returning from holiday. He did it against his former team in a special game for him. "I could not miss the chance to play in my stadium. I want to thank the boss for letting me join in" said the left back, who played down the defeat: "It is worrying. Was a good show, but it's true that we have not achieved the result we wanted. Benfica won well and now we will continue working hard to improve".
After playing the second half in Oviedo, Nacho Fernández played 90 minutes in Real Madrid's friendly against Benfica. The youth academy player was disappointed with the result, said there were positives to be taken from clash against the Portuguese side: "It's a pre-season game that helps us prepare for the future. They came very well prepared shot and that was the key. The first half was very good for both teams and during the second we took our foot off the gas a bit, because we’ve played very few matches, and that was the difference". Now, Nacho will take part in the first team’s second part of their preparation in the USA: "I am very happy, first team players have welcomed me as one of them and I have no complaints".
