The first test of the pre-season and the best result. Against Real Oviedo Real Madrid showed that they are in good form and that, even if they need to keep training, the machine is well oiled. After the match, the White’s coach, Aitor Karanka, made a press room appearance and said "we need to keep building on the working until the whole team can be together in the USA. The season premier could not have gone better. Real Madrid started their summer tour in Real Oviedo’s Carlos Tartiere Stadium at and showed that they finely tuned. Five goals scored by Lucas, Denis, Granero and two by Di María testify to this. At the end of the pre-season opener, Karanka spoke of the Factory in the press room: " Real Madrid’s youth academy is very good and it has been the same for a long while. We have always trusted in it but these players have to complete their progression through the ranks".

The coach, visibly pleased with the result in this first test, said that these friendly matches like an extra training session: "The match is one more training session, a match against a team that is also in pre-season training and in front of a great crowd. we need to keep building on the working until the whole team can be together in the USA It is important to score goals but best thing in these games is to build-up pre-season pitch time ".

Asked about the changes to the squad, Karanka said: "Regarding Kaká, we are looking for the best solution for him and it was the coach’s decision that he was here. He is one of players and hopefully we will reach a solution between us". Speaking about Modric he said: "What team would not want to have Modric? He is a recognised and proven player. This club is always looking for the best and he obviously meets that expectation".
