Cristiano Ronaldo became the leading Portuguese goal scorer in the European Cup at Old Trafford. The Real Madrid forward scored his 47th goal in Europe's premier competition against Manchester United (31 for Madrid and 16 for the Red Devils) and, in so doing, surpassed the 46 that Eusebio managed for Benfica. On the other hand, the Portuguese forward, who is the leading scorer in this year's Champions League with eight goals, has drawn level with Gento as the fourth leading marksman for Real Madrid in the history of Europe's premier competition. He now only trails Raúl (66), Di Stéfano (49) and Puskas (35).
The goal that Cristiano Ronaldo netted on Tuesday at Old Trafford not only sealed Real Madrid's passage through to the quarter finals of the Champions League but also marked another chapter in the footballing records that he is setting in his country. The Whites' forward is actually his country's leading marksman in the European Cup. He now has 47 (31 for Madrid and 16 for the Red Devils) and has surpassed the 46 that Eusebio managed for Benfica between 1961 and 1974.
