Real Madrid

Karim Benzema spoke before the press at the Ciudad Real Madrid the day before the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals. The Real forward analyzed the clash against Barcelona, the first Clásico in 2013: “A Real Madrid-Barcelona is the best match in the world. We’re two amazing teams. It’s always a difficult game and the fans are ready to see a good game. The Clásicos are always different matches, but tomorrow we aim to score goals and win. Although we know that it’s a two-game round, we’re playing at home tomorrow and we want to play well and win. We played really well against them in the second round of the Supercopa and we hope for another victory. We’re ready for the match”.

The French forward also spoke about the second leg in Camp Nou. “When we play in Barcelona we play well. We don’t lose many matches there. We’re better each year and I don’t think that Barcelona is the favorite to win. It’s a great team, but we are as well. We know that it’s going to be difficult but I hope we win. We’re a great squad and we want to stay that way”.

When asked about the relationship between the team and coach José Mourinho Benzema was clear: “We’re very united and we don’t have any problem with the coach. I don’t know why they say that”. Regarding Real’s injured players, Benzema said: “It would be better if everyone was available, but we’re a good group and a solid squad that’s going to try to win tomorrow”.

In terms of the competition with Higuaín, the Real forward replied: “It’s good for everyone and above all for the club. I want to play more, that’s normal. I don’t know any player who likes to sit on the bench. He also wants to play more, but the decision comes down to the coach and I’ll have to work to play more".

The French international praised Özil and Cristiano Ronaldo, two players that have kicked off the year in top form. “He’s a great player. He’s got a lot of skill, he’s really good technically and it’s important for us that he’s here. I’m really happy with him”, said Benzema about the German midfielder. About the Portuguese forward, Benzema commented: “For us he’s the best player in the world. It’s good that he plays for Real Madrid”.

In terms of the goalkeeper that will defend Real’s goal tomorrow and the signing of Diego López, Benzema said:  “He’s a good goalkeeper, but the decision of who plays tomorrow is the coach’s.” To conclude, when asked about his teammate Marcelo: “It’s hard for get back onto the team because he’s been out for three months without playing. He’s ready to play more minutes and its good that he’s training”.
