Castilla travels to Santander for the 38th matchday this season to continue climbing spots in the table. The team led by Toril is coming off five consecutive wins and is in top form for the match against Racing, the second-to-last team in the classification that plans to fight for the win to the end to continue their keep their chance for permanence in La Liga Adelante alive.
The last clash between both squads is a fond memory for the Whites: Castilla thrashed Racing at home (4-0) thanks to braces by Cheryshev and Jese. The winger is coming off a five-game scoring streak and is performing the best he has all season, in addition to being the 2nd Division’s top scorer with 21 goals. Toril has called up 18 players for the match against the Cantabrian team.
On the rival bench is coach Alejandro Menendez, former Castilla boss and Toril’s predecessor. In the pre-match press conference the Racing coach described Castilla’s upcoming visit: “We’re facing the biggest game of the year”. Racing has lost their last four matches and needs to pick up the three points in El Sardinero to continue fighting their way out of the drop zone.
