Castilla and Recreativo de Huelva competed in the first edition of the Decano Trophy in the Ciudad de Lepe stadium and the reserve team took the title in the penalty shoot-out after the match ended 2-2. The Whites therefore managed to remain undefeated in the six matches they have played this pre-season. It ends with great promise, looking ahead to the start of their Segunda Division campaign.
Real Madrid Castilla began their last pre-season match taking the reigns of the match. They had control of the ball in the centre of the field and attempted to get to their rival's goal up both sides, thanks to the work of Denis and Quini. Recreativo's first incursion into Mejías' terrain wasn't until the 14th minute, in a shot from the left side that the Whites keeper easily blocked.
In the 25th minute, after a clear scoring opportunity for Recreativo de Huelva, the Real Madrid defence got the ball and through a very quick transition Rubén Sobrino was before the goal, his tough shot defeating Huelva's keeper. After the goal the Real Madrid reserve team, well set-up on the field, prevented Recreativo from moving forward. The second Real Madrid goal almost came in the last play of the first half. Denis made the most of the keeper's slip-up when leaving the goal and stole the ball off him. But his shot went a little wide to the side of the net.
The second half started with Castilla very focused on the game. There were two counter-attacks in a row from Rubén Sobrino and a shot across goal from Quini that went a little wide. Recreativo reacted and had their first clear chance at goal after a slip-up from Iván that left the ball unattended in front of Berrocal, who shot wide. Minutes later, a free-kick from Morcillo hit the crossbar and it was almost a draw.
It was just a warning of what would happen a little later. A loose ball up front in the Whites' area enabled Borja Granero to take a shot that caught Mejías by surprise and slipped past the Real Madrid keeper. Two minutes later, in the 72nd, a nice piece of play between Recreativo's forwards caught Castilla's defence off-guard and Jonathan Valle took advantage to make the score 2-1. But in the last minute Zamora deflected a good shot from Juanfran and scored an own goal, thus forcing a penalty shoot-out to determine the champion of the first Decano Trophy.
