Real Madrid Castilla defeated Albacete in the Carlos Belmonte by 1-2 in their third match of the preseason. The two goals by Denis and Fabinho mean that the Real Madrid filial remains undefeated. Next Sunday they'll have another opportunity to fine tune their play, this time against Gimnástica de Torrelavega.
Albacete is an old rival from the bronze category, but Toril's team demonstrated why Castilla will be playing the Segunda División this year. Although Albacete started stronger in the first minutes, enjoying a clear opportunity at goal in the 4th minute with Mejías skillfully stopping Castillo's shot from close range, the Real Madrid filial completely dominated the whole game. Castilla played hard, pressuring up front, thus preventing Albacete from creating play. This pressure started to bear fruit with the first opportunities at goal and Omar gave the first warning in the 11th minute with a powerful long shot that went just over the Albacete goal.
The siege of Campos's goal continued and Castilla had two clear opportunities in less than two minutes. Juanfran sent two precise shots from the sides that first Denis and then Raúl de Tomás finished off with headers. But luck was not on the Whites' side and first a goalpost and then Campos's hand prevented Castilla from scoring. The Whites' continued to attack without success until just before half-time when Denis, after some fantastic individual play up the side, took a shot that slipped into the Albacete goal, putting Castilla on the scoreboard. The 0-1 score did justice to the superiority shown by Toril's team in the first 45 minutes.
After half-time there were big changes to both teams' lineups. While Albacete only kept on one of their starting eleven, Toril brought in five different players to continue trying out the Whites' squad. Pacheco, Derik, Lucas, José Rodríguez and Sobrino were chosen to substitute Mejías, Iván, Quini, Omar and Raúl de Tomás respectively. The shakeup in Albacete's lineup gave the team new life and they began to pose a greater challenge, getting closer to Pacheco's goal. But Toril knew how to react and sent on Fabinho and Cristian to sub Óscar Plano and Denis. The strategy couldn't have worked out any better, five minutes after the double sub (in the 64th) the Brazilian scored with Cristian's help. The wing back beat Lledó to get their second goal in, to the relief of Toril's team.
After the goal Albacete pulled back and the Whites took over completely. They could have added another goal as Sobrino had a clear opportunity in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the post after Acuña assisted. With the match almost over, Albacete managed to get a rare look-in with Raul Ruiz sending a powerful shot into goal after a penalty kick, resulting in the 1-2 final score.
