Sergio Llull, who turns 25 on November 15, will be with Real Madrid for six more seasons. The player is not hiding his happiness with a contract extension that has delighted him. In fact, the Menorcan has stated that if there is another after this one then he will be very pleased: “I want to complete this contract, and when it finishes, hopefully, sign another and spend my whole life with Real Madrid”.
Sergio, you arrived in 2007 and now you have extended your contract until 2018. I imagine you are very pleased…
I am very happy, this was what I hoped for; it was what I wanted. The truth is that I want to complete this contract, and when it finishes, hopefully, sign another and spend my whole life with Real Madrid.
It is a sign of trust and support from the club towards you. You are now one of the longest-serving players on the squad, despite being so young. Do you feel like a key figure in this team?
Yes, I do feel like a bit of a key figure. I feel well loved, both by the club and the fans, and by all the people who work with the team. I always try to respond on court, playing at 100% and giving everything I have; I am always trying to improve as a player and to help the team to win, which is what matters.
You arrived just over five years ago. Something will have changed in you in that time…
From the day I arrived until today I have become more mature as I have become more experienced every year. I was the kid who would turn a game around, who would be on court for three or four minutes running around like crazy. Nowadays I can do that sometimes, but I have much more experience and I know what a match needs, whether it is a high rhythm or to slow it right down.
Since you arrived you have won three of the four available titles. You have also been the player of the day, and the MVP in the Cup. But you still do not have a Euroleague…
I have won the League, the Cup and the Supercup, and there is one trophy missing, the hardest one. The Euroleague is a trophy that really excites us. We were in the Final Four in Barcelona and we did not do as well as we wanted, but we are going to keep on working to be top in all the competitions, which is Real Madrid’s plan, and the team is very excited going into the new season.
You have missed four games with an injured left ankle. How are you? Will you be able to play today against Mapooro Cantú?
I will be there against Cantú. I have started training with the team and I feel pretty good, I am still not 100% as you would expect, but it is just a matter of time and I will soon be how I was before.
