Nikola Mirotic has been named the Endesa League player of the month, thanks to his averages of 17 points, 7.7 rebounds, and a PIR of 24 in Real Madrid’s streak of wins in October. The Real Madrid wing-center, who was already the player of the day on Day 2 due to his incredible performance against the Blancos de Rueda Valladolid, in a game in which he earned a PIR of 46, wins this award for the first time in his career. It is a testament to his spectacular start to the season as the leader of the league. “I am very happy about this award; it is the work of the whole team that helped me win it,” stated the Real Madrid player.
The Endesa League already has its first player of the month: the Spanish-Montenegrin Real Madrid player, who continues to accumulate individual prizes in his brilliant career in the basketball elite. Mirotic changed from a merely a promising player to become, at only 21 years old, one of the pillars of the current Super Cup champions and undisputed leaders of the competition with five wins in the first five days of play.
The player showed his happiness upon receiving this award, but at the same time he revealed his future ambitions: “I am very happy about this award; it is the work of the whole team that helped me win it. There’s still a long way to go and I want to keep improving. I am happy because I don’t want to settle, I want to continue to grow as a player. This means that the work that I did over the summer and in the preseason with the club has been very successful. I want to help the team and for it to improve every day. When I step onto the court I do so to help the team, not to be the MVP. We have a long squad list and on this team anyone can be the MVP.”
In the last four games played this month, in which Real Madrid has beaten the Blancos de Rueda, Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada, Gran Canaria, and Caja Laboral, the Real Madrid wing-center has played an average of 27 minutes, scored 17 points and almost eight rebounds for a PIR of 24. This figure has brought him to the top of the rankings for the best player of the championship, ahead of Kendall (Blusens) and Lewis (UCAM Murcia).
On the second day of league play, Mirotic had a performance to remember in the Real Madrid 75-100 win against the Valladolid team in the Pisuerga Pavilion. He earned a PIR of 46, a figure that had not been seen in the white club since Sabonis and Arlauckas. He scored 26 points, captured 10 rebounds, had three blocks and received seven personal fouls, numbers that won him the title of best player of the day. Along with Reyes, he was also the top scorer of his team in the game against Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada, with 18 points. In addition, he captured eight rebounds and finished with a PIR of 22. On the fourth day of play, the white number 12 contributed to Real Madrid’s tight win over Gran Canaria with eight points and six rebounds, and in the most recent win against Caja Laboral, the home-grown player was Real Madrid’s best, with 16 points, seven rebounds, and a PIR of 18.
