The Real Madrid coach spoke after the match against the Raptors. Pablo Laso stressed that he's leaving “happy with the tour in general”, although now it's necessary to move on: “It's finished and a change in mindset is needed for the match on Friday”. In addition, he pointed out that his team played to win at all times: “We came to compete and win and we demonstrated that we had chances”.
Pablo Laso left a little disillusioned with the result of the match because his team wasn't rewarded for their great work: “We leave feeling a little deflated. We've come away with the feeling that we fought hard in both matches. The other day we had less chances at winning but today I think we did. The percentages weren't very good, especially with the free throws, where we missed in key moments. 15 missed free throws in such a close match is damaging. Later we made some mistakes, but it isn't easy because of the different kind of basketball and of refereeing, which also cost us considerably”.
There are still certain differences between the United States and Europe and this is reflected on the court. “Basketball here is very different in many aspects, especially in certain details like the refereeing, the spaces and the players' physical condition. They were able to hit us hard in those areas. In others we were very competitive”, explained Laso, who also wished to congratulate his players and their rival for the win: “The team played well today and did a great job. I congratulate them for it and also the Raptors, who pulled out moves to beat us”.
In terms of their time in America, the Real Madrid coach explained that it has been positive: “Generally speaking, I'm leaving happy with the days spent here, with how the team has worked, but conscious that now it's finished and that a change in mindset is needed for the match on Friday. Matches are always different. We dominated many phases of the match, we controlled the rhythm of play and there were many moments when they were behind. They're a very physical team and that made us suffer. When you play against a team from the NBA and you only regret things that are purely basketball-related details, like missing free throws or being stopped for some fouls in attack, well you leave happy. We came here above all to compete and with the intention of winning and we demonstrated that we had chances”.
Lastly, the Whites' coach commented that their only objective in both matches was victory. “When you coach Real Madrid you're defending a legend and right from the start we went out to win the match, just like the other day in Memphis”.
