Two of Real Madrid’s new players, Marcus Slaughter and Dontaye Draper, were enthusiastic about their first month with the Whites and, above all, about the opportunity to be fighting for titles, the first of which is the Endesa Super Cup this Saturday. "The football team won the Super Cup and we want to follow in their footsteps" said the Californian centre. In turn, the point guard states that they are ready to play for the first title of the season: "We are prepared for it and the moment of truth has arrived to play well and to win titles."
Marcus Slaughter believes the Real Madrid pre-season "went well" because they have "won every game and some of them were very tough" and says his team is ready to play for the Endesa Super Cup and compete at the highest level: "We are ready to play in Zaragoza. It's exciting. The football team won the Super Cup and we want to follow in their footsteps. We’re going there to give one hundred percent and to win the Super Cup."
The American explained that he sees that Real Madrid have the opportunity to do great things because of the atmosphere and feeling in the team and the quality that exists within the group: "We are a close-knit team. We have a great relationship between us and there is chemistry on the court. We are building a great team. We are all very involved and working hard. In addition, there are players like Rudy who is a big star ... I think we're ready to win championships because we have a great team, great players and a great coach. The team has a lot of talent and that's very important to win titles."
On a personal level, the number 44 explains that he wants to "Win trophies". Last I got the German league title and this year, with Real Madrid, I will try to achieve to do the same in Spain". He adds that it is also looking forward to start the championship: "The Liga Endesa is the best in Europe and it will be very exciting to compete with the big teams. There is a lot of talent in the teams and anyone can win or lose. What we have to do is to be united, whether we win or lose"
His compatriot and another of the newcomers, Draper, spoke along the same lines in saying that they are having "a good pre-season. We are working hard to get ready for the start of the season." A campaign that starts with the Endesa Super Cup. "We are prepared for it because I think we have done things well during the pre-season. The moment of truth has arrived to play well and to win titles" added the Baltimore point guard.
What has most surprised Draper so far is that the group all think about the importance of being successful: "This team is one of the easiest to become part of from the teams that I've played in. Off the court there is always a good atmosphere and this is reflected in the way we play, competing at the highest level." About his role at Real Madrid he said that is available for whatever Pablo Laso wants: "As for my role, I think I can score, defend and lead the team. I am here for whatever the team needs."
Finally, the former Eurocup MVP with Cedevita, spoke of the Liga Endesa "it is one of the best competitions in Europe and it will be exciting to play in it. With my old team I played against Gran Canaria and Estudiantes. I know it's a great league and there will be no easy games, so we have to prepare well and go game by game."
