Some of Dontaye Draper's characteristics are speed, a fast reading of the game and the capacity to penetrate the key and serve assists. The American point guard was the MVP of the 2010/11 Eurocup thanks to his brilliant numbers at Croatian side Cedevita, which demonstrated his great skill for scoring, grabbing rebounds and making steals. This player will enhance the incredible skills of Llull and Rodriguez.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 10 August 1984, Draper started playing at Wallsbrook High School before landing at the College of Charleston, where he remained between 2003 and 2007 playing for the Cougars. He then played in Australia with the Sidney Kings during the 2007/08 campaign and was named the best sixth player in the championship.
His objective was always to play in Europe and he sined for French side Hyeres-Toulon (2008/09) before joining the Italian Prima Veroli (2009/10). He eventually landed in the Adriatic League on the Cedevita Zagreb roster, with whom he earned excellent numbers, such as the Eurocup 2011 MVP with 15 points, 6.2 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game.
Last season was one of Draper's best. He helped take his team to the Eurocup Final Four and the Croatian League final, where they lost to KK Zagreb. This season, the team lost against Maccabi. Draper played with Croatia in the Eurobasket and shone as an assist-man, averaging seven assists per clash.
The point guard now lands in the most competitive league in Europe and at the most honoured team of the continent, Real Madrid, with whom he'll be able to play in the Euroleague, a dream he's had for a long time.
