Real Madrid have taken part in the Red Cross’s Flag Day for another year by setting up a stall for collections in the Santiago Bernabéu. The stall opened at 10:00 in the Esquina del Bernabéu shopping centre and collected donations throughout the morning. Florentino Pérez, the Club President, was the first to arrive, followed by the first-team players Carvalho, Essien, Jesús, Adán and Callejón, and the first team’s deputy coach Aitor Karanka. The former players Alfredo Di Stéfano, Ignacio Zoco, José Luis Pérez Payá, Pachín, and Rafael Rullán, as well as Emiliano Rodríguez, the Honorary Basketball President, also appeared.

The stall for Red Cross donations located in the Santiago Bernabéu was visited early on by the Club President Florentino Pérez. Shortly afterwards several former players arrived who did not want to miss this opportunity to provide their support. “It is an honour to represent Real Madrid in events such as this”, said Pérez Payá. Pachín shared this opinion and was optimistic about the team’s position in la Liga: “I am very pleased that Real Madrid take part in events like this. The team has the best goalkeeper since Yashin’s time and the points they need to claw back in the championship are nothing for Real Madrid”.

Alfredo Di Stéfano was the next to appear. The Honorary President of Real Madrid never misses this event: “It is a tradition and I hope to come for many more years. We former players always help with the Red Cross”. As is traditional Di Stéfano took the opportunity to talk to the volunteers who help out on the stall and to analyse the current form of Real Madrid: “I think the team looks good. Barcelona have started well, but we will finish better. Besides, I will settle for winning the Champions League”.

Zoco, for his part, said: “We are very committed to this organization. Also, Real Madrid’s former players play in a lot of matches with the Red Cross because we know about the great work they do”. Soon afterwards the first team players Carvalho, Essien, Jesús, Adán and Callejón arrived, as well as the first team’s deputy coach Aitor Karanka, and they also contributed to the cause.
