The Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium was the venue of the traditional Christmas luncheon that brings the basketball and football teams together before the holiday season. The Madridista family came together to end 2011, a year in which the football side won the Copa del Rey and the basketball team reached the Final Four for the first time in 15 years.
President Florentino Perez and his Board of Directors; Honorary President Alfredo di Stefano; Director General Jose Angel Sanchez; and Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño awaited the arrival of the squads.
The first to arrive were the members of the football team's coaching staff, who had just supervised a training session at Valdebebas following the 6-2 win over Sevilla. The basketball team arrived right after defeating Manresa at the Caja Magica.
The room was presided by several European Cup trophies and the Best Club of the 20th Century award. A great atmosphere ruled throughout the luncheon. Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo chatted with Mirotic and Begic; Xabi Alonso talked with Sergio Llull; Jayce Carroll - who attends all football games- had a conversation with Kaka; and captains Iker Casillas and Felipe Reyes gave each other a warm welcome.
The Presidential table was the focus of most of the attention, as it comprised Florentino Perez; Alfredo di Stefano; Emiliano Rodriguez; Vice Presidents Fernando Fernandez Tapias, Eduardo Fernandez de Blas and Pedro Lopez Jimenez; coaches Jose Mourinho and Pablo Laso; and captains Iker Casillas and Felipe Reyes.
