Real Madrid held the traditional annual Insignia ceremony, attended by 1,440 Club Members, of which 1,153 received the Silver Insignia (for 25 year membership), 94 the Gold Insignia (50 years) and 193 the Gold & Diamond Insignia (60 years). The event was hosted by Director of Institutional Relations Emilio Butragueño. Renowned flamenco singer Jose Merce delighted those attending with his rendering of the club's anthem.
"It is an honour to be with Madridismo on such an occasion, in which the protagonists who make history at Real Madrid come together," said Butragueño, "We've come together today to reward them for their unbreakable loyalty to Real Madrid. We wouldn't have been able to become the Best Club of the 20th Century without their efforts and faith. I want everyone to know you were behind the team in every effort, bringing out the very best in us. Thanks for everything."
Amongst the 1,440 honoured Club Members were Fernando and Francisco Javier Perez de Camino Palacios, grandchildren of the founder and first President of the club, Julian Palacios. They received the Gold & Diamond Insignia today. "We're proud that our grandfather played such an essential and important role at this club," they said, "We have fond memories of him and, thanks to his efforts, this club is now able to remember things such as the arrival of Di Stefano or the celebrations at Cibeles. We continue to feel strongly about this and we hope to continue enjoying watching a team we like and that entertains us whenever we go to the stadium."
