Mesut Ozil was, once again, Cristiano Ronaldo's best aide in attack against Zaragoza. The German assisted the Portuguese player in his first goal. Ozil was the master of ceremonies in Real Madrid's 6-0 victory in Zaragoza.
The partnership in attack of Ozil and Ronaldo is one of the most effective in the world. The German midfielder served Cristiano 12 assists last season, helping him earn an impressive 53 goal tally, the best ever achieved in one season by a Real Madrid player. With the pass against Zaragoza, Ozil has assisted Ronaldo 13 times and served a total 27 assists as a Madridista.
Ozil's progress and rise at Real Madrid has been unstoppable. He was the season's top assist-man in Europe (26 in all championships), the new Real Madrid signing with the largest number of victories alongside Bodo Illgner (27) and the team's most used player (63 appearances in all). The icing on his perfect season was winning the Copa del Rey title.
The midfielder is the motor of the team. His incredible passes and excellent vision of the game make him a key player on Mourinho's team. Ozil is also dedicated to defending, recently proven by the incredible run with which he put an end to a Zaragoza counterattack on Sunday.
Admiration for Ozil is found everywhere, not just amongst the team and its supporters. Former Madridista and current Besiktas player Guti said on Twitter after the German's performance in Zaragoza: "Real Madrid's best player is Ozil. I love watching him play."
