Real Madrid will face Galatasaray, the most honoured side in Turkish football history, in the 33rd edition of the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy. The Whites look to win the title again this year by giving a performance worthy of the great football they showcased during the preseason and in the Spanish Super Cup.

Galatasaray have never participated in the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy. This will be their second match at the stadium after losing the return leg of the 2000/01 Champions League quarterfinals 3-0.

Jose Mourinho will take all his men with him to the match, as well as the academy's Tomas Mejias, Nacho, Alex, Mendes, Mandi and Morata.

Real Madrid won the six previous editions of the Trophy by defeating MLS Soccer Selection, Anderlecht, Partizan, Sporting Portugal, Rosenborg and Peñarol. If they win tonight, they will equal the run they had between 1994 and 2000 by defeating Palmeiras, Ajax, Benfica, Portuguesa, Peñarol, Milan and Santos.

Fourteen Real Madrid players have managed to score a brace in a Santiago Bernabeu Trophy match, but no one has managed a hat-trick yet. Cunningham and Pineda came close in the first two editions of the tournament, as well as Karim Benzema against Rosenborg two years ago.

Galatasaray have won the Turkish league 17 times and are the most honoured side in Turkey. They are also the only Turkish team with European titles (UEFA Cup, European Super Cup) and the only side, alongside Ajax, to be undefeated in an entire UEFA Cup season.

This is coach Fatih Terim's third season at the helm of the team, aided by legendary former Brazil goalie Claudio Taffarel as goalkeeper coach. The squad boasts the talents of new signings Felipe Melo, Ujfalusi, Eboue, Elmander and Fernando Muslera, as well a seasoned men like Milan Baros and Culio.
