Real Madrid earned a fourth straight victory in the preseason against Hertha Berlin at the German capital's Olympic Stadium. They were forced to come back from the locals' opener through a great Benzema, who scored two goals and was the man of the match. Cristiano Ronaldo netted the team's first strike from a free-kick.
Mourinho knew this was going to be the toughest match yet in the preseason and used several of last season's starters in the lineup. Hertha's season starts on Sunday and they made things difficult for the Madridistas in the first 15 minutes with dangerous counterattacks spearheaded by Ramos. Ebert eventually scored the opener on the 18-minute mark after receiving the ball from Lustenberg inside the box and defeating Casillas with a powerful crossed shot.
Real Madrid reacted to the strike by pressurising in attack. Callejon was brought down inside the area by Kobiashvili in the 20th minute, but was not awarded a penalty. Benzema then had three dangerous ventures in attack that were eventually rewarded: the first was a shot that missed the mark by drifting to the right, the second was a shot from right outside the box that hit the crossbar, and the third ended up forcing the locals to bring him down 25 meters away from the goal (29'). Cristiano Ronaldo took the free-kick and sent the ball to the back of the net through the top left corner of the goal.
Four minutes after the the equaliser, Benzema received the ball inside the box from Callejon and defeated Kraft with his right foot. Hertha were no longer dangerous on Casillas' goal after this second strike.
Khedira came on in the second half and proved to be completely recovered from his recent injury. The German midfielder pressurised Mijatovic in attack, stole the ball from him and assisted Benzema to score in an empty goal. Not content with scoring two goals, the French striker starred in the best effort of the match on the 55-minute mark after he controlled a divided ball, dribbled past a defender with a self-pass, and faced alas the Portuguese player didn't get in time for a fourth strike.
