Kaka played in the final minutes of the match and Ronaldo scored a brace

Fernando Porrero / Translation by Michael J. O'Donnell

Real Madrid showcased the same intensity they had at the end of the year and dominated throughout the match. The Whites needed only 18 minutes to score two goals. Kaka came on in the final minutes of the game eight months after his last appearance with the team.

Di Maria was awarded a penalty on the 9-minute mark when he was grabbed by the shirt inside the box and thrown on the ground. Cristiano Ronaldo took the shot and netted the opener. Getafe hardly had a chance to react to the strike when Di Maria served a perfect assist for Ozil, who defeated keeper Codina in stunning fashion (18'). The locals reformed and worked hard to score a goal, eventually achieving this through Parejo, who netted a great strike following an excellent individual effort (29').

Real Madrid stood their gorund and looked to pull off a counterattack that would seal the match. Di Maria was a constant threat and could only be stopped with late challenges. Just before half-time, Benzema served a great cross on the goal-line and Ronaldo missed the ball by inches.

Khedira came on for Lass at the start of the second half because the latter had a booking. Benzema came close to scoring on the 54-minute mark when Di Maria served him an assist, but the Frenchman's shot went over the crossbar. Two minutes later, following a bad clearance by Codina, Benzema controlled the ball and gave it to Ronaldo inside the box. The Portuguese star faced the keeper and defeated him with ease, tallying his 19th goal this season. Getafe somewhat deflated and Benzema and Di Maria had a chance each to finish off the game, but their finishing touch wasn't precise enough.

The highly anticipated return of Kaka took place in the 75th minute when the Brazilian came on for Benzema, who gave a solid performance. Arbeloa was sent off with a second booking a few minutes later, which allowed Getafe to pull rank and cut distances short through Albin (84'). Garay came on for Ozil to rebuild the defence and keep the score. Real Madrid suffered, but eventually took three important points at the Coliseum.
