Racing Santander used three centre backs at the Bernabeu and their entire defence used a total of five players. Despite this, Real Madrid defeated them 6-1 thanks to their fast, precise and efficient style.
Di Maria served an astonishing assist to Higuain on the 10-minute mark. The striker then ran past his defenders and defeated goalkeeper Toño with a nutmeg, scoring his team's first strike of the night. Higuain served an assist inside the box to Cristiano Ronaldo four minutes later and the Portuguese star netted the second goal. Then, just 12 minutes after that, Ozil managed to enter the box, where he gave the ball to Ronaldo, who in turn tallied Real Madrid's third strike with incredible ease (26').
The crowd was thrilled and hoped to see a shower of goals like that seen against Deportivo. Racing seemed dead, had no speed and barely moved, spending most of their time watching Real Madrid's men playing in front of them. The first effort they attempted in attack came in the very last minute of the first half.
The visitors changed their system after half-time, replacing Torrejon with Ariel, but it was all in vain. In just two minutes, Di Maria ran towards the target and served the ball on the goal-line to Ronaldo, who scored his third strike in the game. It wouldn't be his last, as he successfully converted the penalty that was awarded to Di Maria on the 55-minute mark.
Racing seemed invisible and conceded yet another strike when Ozil tried his luck after receiving a cross (61'). Mourinho decided to make some changes, replacing the German with Canales and, a few minutes later, Higuain with Benzema. With 21 minutes left in the game, the coach brought on Pedro Leon for Marcelo, which forced Di Maria to play down the left wing.
Racing managed to save their honour with a lucky strike; Diop tried his luck from outside the box and the ball was accidentally deflected by Rosenberg's back. Nothing much happened in the match from then on. Real Madrid earned yet another impressive victory that allows them to stand strong in the top position of the table.
