Alvaro Arbeloa sat down with Agencia EFE to share his experiences in the Premier League and his views on Real Madrid.
"I think we did a good job last season, but it is always complicated when a team of Real Madrid's importance fails to take a title. The Club is extremely demanding, so we have to win at least one title every year. We have to be patient because in the future our work will be rewarded. It is vital both for the first team and the academy to have the same working mentality in order to be successful. It is necessary to have a well structured club.”
“This season, the competition on the squad is constantly growing. No one has a guaranteed place at the Club, so players have to fight not only to stay, but also to continue being part of the squad."
"It is very important to start the season well. I believe Iker Casillas will live up to the challenge of being the team's captain. We alll have a say and feel relevant on the team. I think it is positive to share responsabilites among players. For example, someone like Xabi Alonso is vital due to his position on the pitch and his personality."
"The new signings are playing quite well; they are a young and fun bunch. The Germans are the ones who are going to have it tougher because the communication with them isn’t brilliant. Players such as Di Maria, Canales and Pedro Leon have bonded very well with us. They have a lot of potential to be developed at Real Madrid."
"I like the new coach very much. Perhaps it is about time to show what I learned from English football. Players who have participated in the Premier League are used to training with great intensity and to tackling physical workouts like those we are doing now with Mourinho. In many cases, we train in reduced spaces, which makes each session even more intense."
