Xabi Alonso passed his medical prior to signing his contract with Real Madrid. The Real Madrid-Sanitas medical team put the midfielder through a battery of tests including x-rays and a biomechanical exam. Dozens of fans outside Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital greeted Alonso before he made his way to the Santiago Bernabeu.
After landing in Madrid at approximately 10:30 CET and leaving his luggage at the Mirasierra Suites Hotel, Xabi Alonso made his way to Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital for his medical, which confirmed that the player is fit to play.
Alonso had a thorough checkup that included x-rays, an electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, MRI, a biomechanics exam and a locomotors test to determine whether any of his past surgeries have left a lasting effect.
Chief of the Real Madrid-Sanitas medical services team, Dr. Carlos Diez commented that, “We put him through the required protocol with special attention given to his locomotor functions due to the ankle surgery he had. We are satisified with the results as he is completely asymptomatic. Xabi Alonso is able to join the team whenever the coaching staff deems it appropriate. He is completely healthy and there is nothing specific that needs pointing out. He is in perfect shape and, despite his past operations, has no lingering side effects.”
Upon exiting the hospital, the player received a warm welcome from fans and signed his first autographs as a Madridista. Next stop on today’s agenda, the Santiago Bernabeu.
