Miljan Miljanic gave the team a special touch based on technique, effort and winning spirit. At the start of the season, Madridistas were looking forward to some signings which would improve the squad, like Guerini, Sanchez Barrios, Andres and Sol.

Real Madrid started the league in unstoppable form and would allow them a certain degree of relaxation during the second half of the season. The first defeat, against Barcelona by one goal, came after eight victories and five draws.

The second half of the season was a tough fight between the Whites, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. The title was decided on the penultimate week of the tournament. Real Madrid defeated Granada while the other two contenders lost their respective encounters. Real Madrid had a five point cushion over Barcelona and six over Atletico at the end of the season. They were the least scored-upon side (26 strikes) and Miguel Angel won the Zamora Trophy.
