The Santiago Bernabeu hosted its third presentation of the season following that of Manuel Pellegrini and Kaka. This time it was Raul Albiol's turn. Filled with emotion and taking in the momentous occasion, Albiol made his way through the tunnel and appeared before his new fan base. His speech was cut off several times by raucous fans who had gathered for the event. "I will do everything I can to return the confidence that has been placed in me," were the first words out of the new Madridista's mouth.
Raul Albiol has gotten a good taste of the warmth and affection of his new fan base. The new Madridista had been impatiently waiting for the moment of his presentation and the Santiago Bernabeu rolled out the red carpet for the important event.
The first to appear on stage as the music engulfed the stadium was President Florentino Perez accompanied by Alfredo di Stefano, who thanked the thousands of fans in attendance with a wave. "Thank you for being here tonight to welcome our newest player. You have proven yet again that this club's legend continues getting stronger thanks to your passion, and these recent days have been the perfect example. Real Madrid is an example of what a fan base is capable of doing for its team. Those of us who have the responsibility of working here are proud of the strength and excitement that you give to Madridismo and that helps us continue working to fulfill your dreams," opened Florentino Perez, "My dear Raul. You will get a good idea of the warmth and affection our fans provide in our quest for success. Your presence will make us better and stronger. We have signed a versatile player and one of the best defenders in Spain and Europe. He is a magnificent example of what you get when you combine talent, effort and sacrifice. Our new player was capanle of overcoming tremendous difficulties. He was clearly able to overcme that difficult moment and I hope he can now enjoy what he deserves. It makes us proud that you have decided to be a part of this project. Welcome to your home. Welcome to Real Madrid."
Overcome with emotion, Albiol greeted the crowd, who chanted his name, with a huge smile on his face. "I am very happy to be here. I want to thank the club for the effort it made and would like to say that I will do everything I can to return the confidence that has been placed in me. Thank you for everything. Hala Madrid!" said Albiol moments prior to donning his number '18' shirt; a shirt that had today's date, 2 July 2009, embossed on it. Today was Raul Albiol's big day.
