Raul Albiol passes his mandatory physical this morning prior to being unveiled at 21:00 CET tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu. The player was put through sevaral tests including a biomechanics exam at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital. Dozens of fans greeted Albiol as he entered and exited the facility.
Albiol arrived at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital at 9:00, where fans greeted him upon entering and applauded and asked for autographs and photos on his way out.
Following his physical, which consisted of several tests including blood and urine samples, an electrocardiogram and echo, an MRI, x-rays and a locomotor and biomechanics exam, Albiol will make his way to the Santiago Bernabeu for his first visit to what will be his home for the next five seasons.
According to the Chief of Real Madrid's Medical Services, "Raul is in phenomenal shape. All the results were satisfactory. He is perfectly fit for whatever the coaching staff asks of him. He can begin preseason training with absolute normality." When asked if the serious car accident Albiol suffered several years ago will affect his football, the doctor replied, "Not at all. We do not suspect any consequences from a sports standpoint." He also added that the player is "very excited but wants to rest after playing in the Confederations Cup."
