Title-collector; eighth Ballon d'Or winner
The Santiago Bernabeu is the stadium where many of the best players in the world have showcased their talents. Kaka is the latest addition in a list of Madridistas that have won the Ballon d'Or; a lost that includes Kopa, Di Stefano, Zidane, Luis Figo, Owen, Ronaldo and Fabio Cannavaro. On a team level, the Brazilian has also picked up a Champions League title, two European Super Cups, one World Cup, one Club World Cup and one Calcio, while individual accolades include, but are not limited to the UEFA Champions League Best Midfielder, Champions League Best Forward, FIFPro World Player of the Year, Balon d'Or and FIFA World Player of the year.
Among Real Madrid's best
From Di Stefano to la Quinta del Buitre, Laudrup, Ronaldo, Zidane, Raul and Casillas, Real Madrid has always brought together the best footballers in the world. Legendary players who arrived as super stars and managed to increase their status, and in other cases men who experienced their best years as Madridistas or who were brought up in the academy. Kaka now joins this long list of greats who delighted the Bernabeu crowd and left their imprints on the history of the Best Club of the 20th Century.
Return to the Bernabeu
Tuesday won't be the first time Kaka sets foot on the turf of the Bernabeu. In 2002, Kaka joined the likes of Paolo Maldini, Roberto Baggio, Rivaldo and Michael Ballack as a member of the international squad that competed against Real Madrid to commemorate the latter's 100th annivesary. He was a relatively unknown player... until that day. Kaka became an instant household name after the 3-3 draw. Passes through narrow openings, dribbles and graceful football delighted the more than 55,000 fans on hand. But it was Kaka's goal after evading both Pavon and Miñambres that captured the world's attention and instantly catapulted Kaka onto the global stage. No one knew it then, but it was just the first of many matches to come. As of now, the Bernabeu is Kaka's new home. And that goal was one of the many that Madrisistas are sure to enjoy.
Twenty Brazilians precede Kaka
Fernando Giudicelli was the first Brazilian to dress for Real Madrid. Kaka is the most recent to continue the long-standing relationship between the Best Team of the 20th Century and Brazilian football. Between the two we find players who have graced Real Madrid with their talent: Canario, Didi, Ricardo Rocha, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Marcelo, Pepe… the best predecessors for the newest arrival.
An example on and off the pitch
He lives a healthy lifestyle. He doesn't drink alcohol, he doesn't party at night and he dribbles past temptation as easily as he does past his markers. He is a good person, an exemplary husband and he leads his life based on strong religious convicition. He belongs to the Evangelical Church and one more than one occasion has confessed to wanting to be a minister once he hangs up his boots. This is Kaka.
Seal of approval from the greats
The votes are in, and according to everyone from Pele to Giorio Armani, Kaka is one of the most admired men in the world of football. According to Pele, "Kaka is a role model. He is a balanced athlete who is responsible and worries about his career," while Maradona believes, "e has proven that he is one of the best in the world." "I wouldn't mind if he wore my shirt. In fact, I would love for Kaka to wear number '5'," added Zinedine Zidane.
