For some he represents the typical "good looking guy, and for moms the son they all want. Miguel Torres is the latest player to sit down for a dose of Football Off Limits, during which he described himself supportive person who loves to be with family and friends.
Regarding his mom, “My eyes notice every thing she does. She's a role model from head to toe.”
Torres has recently moved out of the house, where “I am trying to learn new things; it's just how life is nowadays.”
“I like how men and women have evolved. Women are much more integrated in the work force and in decision-making. I am glad men no longer have that stereotype, in which he only thought about work and going home to the wife and kids.”
“Being a man doesn't mean not being coquettish. I need to be a little of the latter outside of work. I am not a model. I am a footballer. I would define men nowadays as more tidy than cute and sweet.”
“I frequently buy new clothes. It's definitely one of my weaknesses. I like to wear nice shirts, pants, jeans... I like to dress well, but always with a classic look. I notice others who are well-dressed. I do the best job I can to maintain a clean image.”
He also focuses on what's inside as opposed to just the surface: “There are women who don't have the bodies to be models, but I think they are absolutely beautiful. I don't care how one dresses are what their measurements are. I like their personality, behavior... A girl can be the perfect size and shape, but it won't mean a thing if she can't put two words together. Beauty also come from within.”
Had he not become a football player, Torres would have worked “in something related to sports and kids. Sports is synonymous with a healthy and organized life; values that must be instilled in today's youth.” Unemployment, the global crisis... If he had a magic ball he would change “many things such as all the recent social tension there is. Perhaps that is why kids don't care much about anything. They have it so much easier now.”
“There are many people who are prepared and have finished their studies but cannot find work. It creates disappointment but not laziness. Youth know what their duties are.”
Despite having deep-seeded roots “I have yet to see a place outside of Spain that attracts me enough to want to leave my city.”
“Of course I would just grab a backpack one day because I am very impulsive and adventurous. I can't do it right now, but I would. I have yet to see the US for example, but I have heard it's a world apart. I would love to see New York, Los Angeles... I would love to see if I am capable of living there to learn English.”
“My motto in life is 'live for the moment.' I had a chance in life, I grabbed it, and now I am here... Something some mates who were better than me tried to do and weren't able to.”
About the future, “One of my goals is to have a family and kids. When I meet the right girl I will do whatever it takes to hold onto her. I don't want to have to get separated or divorced.”
“It's hard for us because a lot of people express interest because of what we are, not because of who we really are. I'm not discouraged though. It can happen at any time. If you look hard enough you will find it. I am in no hurry however.”
And that is Miguel Torres, a kid who listens to “U2, Mana, Alejandro Sanz and other Spanish music.” There is “style for every moment.” A kid who believes “music cheers up the soul.” And a kid who “meets up with friends to go to the movies or dinner, or who goes shopping” to forget about work.
