Tomas van den Spiegel's track record says it all. The Belgian has always been a solid man under the iron, as proven by his incredible stats.
Van den Spiegel comes from BC Azovmash Mariupol and began his career in the youth system of Osiris Denderleeuw, where he stayed until 1994. He signed for the Under-20 side of BBC Aalst, with whom he made his professional debut in 1995. He remained there until the end of the 1996/96 campaign.
Tomas was one of the most promising Belgian players at the age of 19 and signed for BC Oostende, one of the country's most important teams. He won two Cups, one league title and participated in the 2000 and 2001 All-Star games of the Belgian league.
In 2001 he was voted Best Belgian Player and decided to try his luck in the Italian league, a much more competitive championship. He signed for Fortitudo Bolonia and stayed there until January 2002, when he returned to BC Oostende. He remained on the team until the end of the season and was a key player in the team's league title.
Fortitudo Bolonia decided to recover the player and Tomas stayed there for two years before signing for Virtus Roma for two more seasons. He didn't win more titles in his four years in Italy, but he improved much as a player and eventually signed for CSKA Moscow in February 2006, where he played until the end of the 2007/08 campaign. BC Azovmash Mauripol was his next stop. He played the Eurocup with the latter team, scoring on average 13,7 points, grabbing 7,3 rebounds, making 1,3 blocks and earning 19,7 performance points.
