Lassana Diarrà gave his first press conference as a Real Madrid player after his official presentation.
People compare you with Makelele because you look alike. Do you find it flattering or does it bother you?
It doesn't bother me. I've known Makelele for a long time and I developed as a player with him at Chelsea. I feel honoured that people compare me with him, but I'm Lassana Diarrà. We have things in common, but I'm here to show the world who I am.
You've played for Chelsea and Arsenal. Do you think you are mature enough to play for Real Madrid?
I've been playing at great clubs for four or five years now. I'm ready to compete at Real Madrid and I am very proud of it. I am anxious to start playing in order to prove it.
What will happen if you don't end up being a starter?
I was very young at Chelsea and it wasn't easy to have minutes in a squad with so many experienced players. I matured at Portsmouth and I think I am capable of competing here. Competition makes a team stronger.
How do you feel from your ankle injury?
I played 30 minutes with my former team last week after missing one month. I'll be in great form after the holidays, but the coach will have to decide if I play.
What does it mean to you to sign for Real Madrid?
It is impossible to refuse an offer from Real Madrid. This was my dream since I was a child and I now want to do my best on the pitch.
How would you define yourself as a player?
I'm here to give 100%. I want to fight for the crest of this team. I have a strong personality and I want to prove my worth before my new crowd.
Playing for Real Madrid comes with international renown. How do you think this can help you to play for France again?
I've missed France's last two games, but I hope to return to the national team thanks to the hard work I'll do here.
How would you define yourself on a physical and tactical level?
I am a natural fighter. I've always proven to be. I am a defensive midfielder that specialises in recovering the ball, but I can also play as a right back.
How do you want to be known, as Lass, Lassana or Diarrà?
There is another Diarra on the team, so I would prefer people to know me as Lass. It will be easier this way.
