Eintracht coach Friedhelm Funkel and forward Ioannis Amanatidis expressed their thoughts on Tuesday's matchup against Real Madrid.
FRIEDHELM FUNKEL:
Last test for your team before the season kicks off...
It's the last big test, and there is no better preparation that a match like tonight's. It will be a great experience for my players because they will be playing against Madrid, who will surely put forth their best starting eleven. We want to do our best against such an historic rival and we hope the fans have fun.
You know what scoring a brace against Real Madrid is like.
Playing against Real Madrid is always a milestone. I played against them in 1981 and playing at the Bernabéu was one of the highlights of my career. We turned the score around in the return leg and went through to the next round. I just happened to score two goals. But that is now history, although I would like my players to score tonight. That said, I prefer two goals on Sunday being that it isn't a friendly.
IOANNIS AMANATIDIS:
What does playing a team like Real Madrid mean to your squad?
It's a special match because it's not every day you can play against Real Madrid. We want to continue improving with our season just about to begin. We want to make our fans proud, and it's a great opportunity for the players to prove they deserve a spot.
