Bernd Schuster talked to the Colombian media after the team's first training session in the South American country.
How do you feel in Bogotá?
The trip was very long, but we're happy to be here. It is great to see how excited people are with seeing Real Madrid. We try to do our best for everyone to have a great time. I'm surprised to see so many journalists; it shows just how highly anticipated this match has been here.
What does this match mean to Real Madrid?
This is another preparation game for us; we have two left before the start of the Spanish Super Cup. This will be a good test, especially because of the time difference, our exhaustion and the fact that we'll be facing a very motivated opponent. It will be hard. We will do our best to continue to improve.
How has the squad adapted to your work method?
They adapted very quickly last year thanks to their great quality. We are still polishing aspects of our game, but we have a very strong squad. We want to play a good game and we work very hard during training sessions; we fight till the end. We are close to playing how I want us to play.
It seems Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he won't play for Real Madrid this year...
He must do what he wants, but it's a shame he's decided not to join us. It doesn't matter, though, because we have a very strong team, capable of achieving our goals. Another great signing, Wesley Sneijder, will rejoin us in three months. We must remain calm because only players capable of adding to the team's game are useful to us.
What can Rafael van de Vaart bring to the team?
He is similar to Guti, Baptista and Sneijder; his technique and goal-scoring talents may help us. His type adapts well to Spanish football and I'm sure he will help the team considerably.
You haven't suffered the problem Barcelona is having with Messi...
Something similar is going on with Diego and Germany. We believe it's normal for our players to play in the Olynpics if they get the chance. Those who've had the experience say it is unbelievable. I think they should be allowed to go if they want to.
