Rubén de la Red is one of the most exciting new faces on the team for the 2008/09 season. He was loaned out to Getafe last year, with whom he proved he deserved a spot at Real madrid. He also recently won the Euro 2008 with Spain.
Rubén de la red had no place on the team at the start of last season and was loaned out to Getafe at the start of the 2007/08 campaign.
He became the team's leader in midfield in a short while as he earned the confidence of coach Michael Laudrup. De la Red even took centre back duties on occasion when his team needed him to.
His excellent job earned him a spot on Luis Aragonés' squad list for the Spanish national team that played and won the Euro 2008 this summer. He made his international debut in a friendly against Peru prior to the tournament.
Key figure at Getafe
The more he played, the more De la Red matured an made progress as a footballer. Despite losing in the end, his brilliant performance in the King's Cup final against Valencia proved he was destined for even greater things. Getafe's historical semifinal in the UEFA Cup against Bayern Munich marked what was his lowest point last season, being sent off soon after kick-off in the return game in Madrid.
Less than two months later, the youth system player jopined Spain for the Euro and made his tournament debut against Greece, scoring one goal.
Memories from the past
After spending one year on Real Madrid's Under-10 Football 7-A-Side, Rubén joined Club Deportivo Móstoles. One year later, he returned to Real Madrid and won the support of his coaches. History seems to be reapeating itself this time around... Could this be his best year so far?
