Together, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Luca Toni sum 400 goals. This figure is one of many reasons to watch tonight's 20:45 Netherlands-Italy game. Holland haven't defeated the current world champions in three decades.
The Austria/Switzerland Euro 2008 kickstared on Saturday with the Group A fixture between Switzerland and Czech Republic. One of the biggest earty games in the tournament is set to take place tonight when the Netherlands and Italy face each other for the first time since the latter defeated the former in the penalty shoot-out of the Euro 2000 semifinals.
Holland hasn't defeated Italy in 30 years, drawing six and losing two matches since then. Ruud van Nistelrooy will try to break this 'curse' in his personal duel with Luca Toni.
The match promises to see many goals; the sum of Ruud's and Toni's strikes combined is 414. Van the Man has scored 228 goals in 378 games in his entire career, winning top-scorer awards in three different leagues (Eredivise, Premiership, La Liga).
Ruud has scored 42 more goals than 'The Bomber', who currently registers 186 in 379 matches. At 31, both men will star in one of the most attractive and thrilling duels in the competition.
Another interesting clash will take place in midfield when Sneijder and Pirlo face each other. The Dutchman will surely be one of his team's most important men and will even try to defeat goalkeeper Buffon on more than one occasion.
