Nineteen of the 20 directors of teams from the Primera Division participated athe survey carrid out by Spanish daily Público to pick the top players of 2007/08. Casillas was voted the best player and best goalkeeper, while Sergio Ramos took best defender honors..
Six of the 19 experts voted for Iker, while three selected Güiza, who came in second as the best player. Real Madrid was the best-represented team in this category with three players up for the award: Iker, Ramos, and Raúl. Casillas took home top goalkeeper honors by receiving 14 votes and was followed by former Madridista Diego López with four and Roberto with one.
Sergio Ramos received 10.5 of the possible 19 for best defender honors. Heinze came in second with three votes and was followed by Pepe with two Alves (1), Cáceres (1), Garay (1) and Puyol (0.5).
January 27th's Real Madrid-Villarreal match which ended in a 3-2 victory for the Whites was selected as the match of the season, while the Barcelona-Real Madrid matchup in the Camp Nou finished as runner-up. The fifth-best match was Osasuna-Real Madrid, which clinched the 31st league title for the Whites.
