Ruben de la Red was behind the microphone on Realmadrid Radio to discuss Spain's 2008 Euro victory and the newest members of the Real Madrid squad.
Winning the Euro must have been one of the most special times of your career.
Yes, it was perhaps the most important time. Being promoted to Segunda Division with Real Madrid Castilla was also special, but winning the Euro is much more significant.
You scored an incredible goal.
It was the only match I played in and I had the fortune of scoring. It was great.
Were there any other special moments?
When we got back to Madrid. The welcome we received was amazing. It was great to see so many people at the airport, in Plaza Colon...
It was important for everyone. There was great team dynamic.
Spain has a great squad with a great attitude. Winning the Euro was the pay-off. It looks like the same vibes are still swirling within the team.
What were the hours leading up to the final like?
We were very anxious, especially to play well. We wanted to return to Spain on the top of the world.
What are your thoughts on Kaka?
Real Madrid is accustomed to having such players, and Kaka is a global icon. He has a lot to give to Real Madrid and vice versa.
Cristiano is a unique player. Defenders in La Liga are going to have a hard time this year.
There was a good squad last season and this year it will be even better. Madrid will be among the best with the players it has.
What can you say about Albiol?
I am happy that he is here. We played together as Under-19's and with the national team. Madrid needs players who are young, Spanish and wanting to succeed.
