Raul Gonzalez is one of the ten nominees for the 2009 Golden Foot award. He is joined on the shortlist by Totti, Henry, Ronaldinho, Buffon, Gerrard, Giggs, Trezeguet and former Madridistas David Beckham and Luis Figo. The accolade was created in 2003 by Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport and the World Champions Club to acknowledge the best European footballers over 29 years of age. It is sponsored by the Principality of Monaco.
