Balboa joined the youth system in 1999, playing for Real Madrid C and Castilla, with whom he got promoted to the Second Division. He made his first team debut against Deportivo in Riazor Stadium in the 2005/06 campaign, after which he was loaned out to Racing for one year. He rejoined the first team for the 2007/08 campaign and won his first league title.
He played in a total of ten games last season in La Liga, Champions League and King's Cup, scoring two goals. He became an international for Equatorial Guinea in 2007.
