Twenty-one year old Marcelo Vieira, who on Friday 5 February signed a contract extension through 2015, played his 100th match for Real Madrid on Saturday against Xerez.

Marcelo Vieira is having a breakout season. Not including Iker Casillas, he has played the most minutes of any Madridista in Liga action (1,843 min.) and is the only player to start 21 of the 22 matches played. Taking into account the fact that he replaced Garay during the Malaga match, he has only not participated in one game this season.

After Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, Marcelo has taken the most shots on goal (13) in Champions League play, he is the team's second best man in Liga action and he has already scored two goals in the domestic competition.His two goals were products of his perseverance, intelligence, speed, versatility and power, all of which spectators at the Bernabeu during the Valladolid match and fans at the Vicente Calderon were privy to.
