Trivia
- Third team, alongside Pumas, with most short tournament titles in Mexico (Winter 1996, Summer 2001, Clausura 2008, Clausura 2012). Only Toluca (7) and Pachuca (5) have more.
- Santos Laguna were promoted to the First Division when they purchased the Angeles de Puebla franchise in 1988. They haven't been relegated since.
- They've had a collaboration agreement with Glasgow Celtic since September 2010. Both teams wear green and white.
- In Week 6 of the last Apertura Tournament, Santos Laguna suspended their match against Monarcas due to shots being fired close to the stadium, which was evacuated. The match continued two days later and the visitors won 2-0.

Head Coach
Benjamín Galindo (Zacatecas, Mexico, 11-12-60). He won his first title in his second stint at Santos Laguna (he previously coached them in 2006 and joined again in 2011) after coaching important Mexican sides such as Cruz Azul and Chivas Guadalajara (whom Real Madrid faced last year). As a player, he won four Mexican league titles and partcipated in the USA World Cup.

Standout players
Oribe Peralta (Coahuila, Mexico, 12-01-84): The team's main attacker. His performance was decisive in their latest Clausura trophy, scoring two of the team's three goals against Monterrey in the two-leg final. He is an international for Mexico and will be one of Mexico's three players over 23 years old in the Olympic Games.

Marc Crosas (Girona, Spain, 09-01-88): A true globetrotter despite his young age. He started out in Barcelona's academy and made his debut with the first team before signing for Olympique Lyonnais. He then played for Celtic and Volga Nizhni. The deal between Celtic and Santos Laguna facilitated his signing for the Mexican side. He is a leading figure in midfield and won the Clausura in his first year on the team. He also won the Ligue 1, the Cup of France and the Scottish Cup.

Daniel Emmanuel Ludueña (Cordoba, Argentina, 27-07-82): Probably the most talented player on the team. Son of former Argentinean player ‘Hacha’ Ludueña, he made his professional debut with River Plate, with whom he won two Clausura Tournaments (2003, 2004). He is now a Mexican national and Santos Laguna's main player, landing on the team in 2007 and winning the 2008 and 2012 Clausuras with them.
