The goalkeeper earns this new record by improving on Zubizarreta's 125 starting caps

Iker Casillas became the Spanish international with the largest number of games as starter in the match against France, improving on Andoni Zubizarreta's 125.
This is yet another of the many impressive feats the Spanish captain has earned at just 31. He is also the most-capped Spanish player in history, the Spaniard with most apperances in a Euro and the player to wear the captain's armband in most games.

Jose Antonio Camacho was the national coach who demonstrated confidence and faith in Casillas as his starting goalkeeper on 2 September 2002. Twelve years later, Spain's goal still belongs to him and it will stay that way for a long time yet.
