Without any chances of winning the league, Real Madrid's only option for making the following year's European Cup was to win it. After knocking off Black Star Mersch, USC Heidelberg, Lokomotiv Sofia, USK Prague and Vorwarts Leipzig, the Whites beat AŠK Olimpija in the semifinal to set up a title game against Simmenthal Milano. Emiliano Rodriguez's 29 points and the 23 by Aiken guided Real Madrid to 91-83 victory and the club's third European Cup win.
